Underwater seashell terrarium - it makes no sense but it makes me happy! Handmade card by Debby Hughes.

OK, so bear with me; do you see an underwater terrarium, or is it just me? I guess it could be a window from a submarine, too. Hmmm, I’m not sure, but whatever it is, the die-cut framing of this wee underwater scene makes me happy. Today’s blog post is part of a hop to celebrate the Sunny Vibes release from Simon Says Stamp. Scroll down for more information on the hop and how to take part.

I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

The Beachcombing stamp set has multi-layer options to stamp the images. However, it also has some sweet line images too and I still love to paint at every opportunity so I picked a seashell and starfish and created this little scene.

I used a cold-pressed watercolour card, stamped the starfish, stamped it again on masking paper, cut it out, covered the starfish with the mask, and then stamped the shell. When the mask is lifted, the shell appears behind the starfish.

I used Daniel Smith paints to watercolour and added a freehand seaweed behind the shell to set the scene. The great thing about seaweed is that it can be any shape! I splattered it with leftover paint and white gouache and placed it on one side to dry.

I used the Nested Domed Arches to frame the scene. I cut a piece of Arches cold pressed watercolour card (so the colour matched with the watercoloured panel), and I cut the same die from a Champagne Matte card. I used foam adhesive to anchor the frame to the outer panel and then added lots more foam tape around the rest of the panel before adding to frame the watercoloured background piece. Using yet more foam tape (probably my favourite basic supply), I added the panel to a card base cut and scored from a Neenah Desert Storm card.

For the greeting I chose to pair the Little Banners Basics dies with a base layer of Champagne Matte and a top layer from a scrap of watercolour card. I again used foam tape to adhere the two layers together and to add over the panel.

Finally, I accented with Enamel Dots and Pearls.
