A tried and true in combination plus seeking perfection. Handmade card by Debby Hughes.

I first started using a version of this ink combination after seeing Kristina Werner testing out options. You should check out Kristina’s series on ink combinations if you are ever stuck. I’ve turned to this favourite time and time again. Check out other projects using these colours here. Today’s blog post is part of a hop to celebrate the Splendor release from Simon Says Stamp, you can find more details of that if you scroll down.

I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

I mention seeking perfection in the title of this blog post. This card is far from perfect; don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to blow my trumpet. Is that phrase something you use where you live? Anyway, I’m getting off track. Perfection. It can be a hard task master. I made the panel for this card three times. I tried it with pinks and purples for a brighter, more spring-like colour combination. However, if you’ve been around here for a while, you know that my colour choices are, well, not all that colourful! So I turned to a favourite combination which always speaks to me and worked with that. But then I didn’t make the background ink blend light enough so that there wasn’t enough contrast when I blended over the top with the stencil. So I did it again. This is not uncommon for me when working on a project, striving to make something the best I can. Now I know I can’t draw or cut a straight line for the life of me! But I keep trying, sometimes again and again. I don’t think I’m alone in this. How about you? Do you make multiple attempts when making a card? OK, now, for those of you hanging on for the ink combination, I used:

For the background panel, I blended Antique Linen and Speckled Egg over a piece of 130lb white card (my favourite for the way it takes ink blending). I added just a touch of Evergreen Bough at the base but didn’t want it to get too much depth of colour so that I could keep the contrast when I blended over the top. I added the Spring Floral Mandala stencil, secured it on the back of the card, blended Evergreen Bough from the base up, and slowly transitioned into Speckled Egg near the top of the panel. I then deepened the base of the card with Black Soot. I removed the stencil and then splattered with Black Soot and White Acrylic Ink.

I die-cut the Fine Floral Stem dies from more of the white card and glued the centres in place before adding the die to the card panel with foam adhesive.

For the sentiment, I took a greeting from the Birthday Basics set, stamped it in embossing ink on a Black card and white heat embossed it before trimming it to a banner. I added the sentiment to the card with more foam tape. Finally, I accented with Rainbow Splash droplets. These are my current favourites for a final flourish.

How to showcase a stunning die cut with a simple background. Handmade card by Debby Hughes.

Here’s another card I made with products from the new Splendor release. Again this one uses a simple white die cut to showcase the stunning detail of the die. This uses the Beautiful Dove dies along with the Birthday Basics stamp set for the sentiment. You can find the original post for this card here.
