Well, hello there! I’m sorry that circumstances mean that I’ve not been able to craft much recently. But I’m delighted to be able to share a card with you for the start of DieCember. DieCember is a month-long celebration of one of my most used supplies, in fact, my card today uses only dies, not a stamp set to be seen!
I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Before I jump into this card, please check out the new DieCember release from Simon Says Stamp. The Flourish Merry Christmas, Aidan Snowflake and Winsome Branch dies I used on this card are from the latest release.

how to collage painted transparent layers for an ethereal winter scene
I started this card by creating lots of collage papers; I dug around my stash and found vellum of different weights and glassine paper. In America, deli paper might be a good option, and even some tissue papers would work.
I took the thin transparent papers and painted them with Amsterdam Titanium White acrylic ink and Payne’s Grey acrylic ink. You could try using watercolours, watercolour pencils, or anything that adds colour but can be diluted and swooshed around on the paper. I then left these to dry overnight.

The following day I created a watery background with Payne’s Grey ink on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Cold Pressed watercolour card. I then tore pieces of paper with the Titanium White ink and I die cut the Winsome Branch from paper with Payne’s Grey ink and tucked it into the white layers. I glued them to the panel before sewing them in place.

To add detail, I sewed in a few sequins along the way. My stitching is far from perfect but I think that adds to the style. That’s what I’m telling myself at any rate!

I also die-cut an Aidan Snowflake from white painted paper and glued that onto the background too.

I cut the base piece of the Flourish Merry Christmas die from vellum and the lettering from Ivory card and glued them together. I then added tiny pieces of foam tape on the back of the vellum so that the lettering hid them. Finally, I added this sentiment piece over the collaged layers.

I accented the tree with more sequins and some Distress Mica flakes as the final touch to this wintery ethereal scene.
