Peace, love, joy – you can’t hope for more can you? It is one of the Holiday sayings that gets used often, but I think people skim over the greeting without thinking about those three simple words and what they stand for. In addition, this card uses an easy faux watercolour technique and I hope you keep scrolling to find out more. If you scroll to the bottom of this post, you’ll find the details of a Blog Hop I’m joining in with too to celebrate the Handmade Holiday release from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
EASY FAUX WATERCOLOUR STENCIL TECHNIQUE
I’ll lay out step by step the technique I used for the faux watercolour effect.
- Spritz a piece of watercolour card with water and then with Speckaled Egg Spray Stain. Spritz more water and leave to dry to create a light watery looking blue background.
- Tape a stencil to the piece of card. I used the Chrsitmas Wreath from Simon Says Stamp.
- Using small blender brushes and Distress Inks, blend colours through the stencil.
- I used Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple, Barn Door, Forest Moss, Rustic Wilderness, Bundled Sage, Iced Spruce, Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw!
- Once finished with the ink blending, lift the stencil. Now this looked lovely, however, I wanted to get that watercolour look and so I spritzed and dribbled water over the ink blending. Distress Inks react with water and you get that spreading out of the colour and the colours also mixing and blending together.
- In a few places I took some of the inks on a brush and dabbed them into the puddles of colour to add some more definition.
I splattered the card with water and with white gouache and then let the panel dry and splattered it again wiht white gouache for extra definition. I trimmed the panel down and attached it to a kraft card base with foam tape.
For the sentiment, I used the Love Joy Peace Rainbow set and used Antique Gold Embossing Powder to heat emboss the sentiment on white card before trimming it out and adhering over the wreath. I finished with a few Eggshell Pearls and Sequins.
