I’m delighted to be joining you from Scotland today to celebrate World Card Making Day. I thought about combining traditional imagery of Scotland into my card in some way; tartan, whiskey, beautiful scenery etc. I’ve done tartan before and I’ve never liked whiskey (shhh don’t tell!). So, I thought I’d mentioned the beautiful scenery we are so fortunate to be surrounded by. A silver lining of COVID and lockdown was my son turning to me one day and saying how that these strange days have allowed him the time to explore where we live and appreciate the wonder that is Scotland at it’s finest. I was listening to a podcast the other day, and I need to check my figures, but it highlighted that the population of Scotland is only half that of London. I think the figures are more like 60% but you get the idea, Scotland isn’t overcrowded which again I like. There is space between one town and the next, glorious, beautiful space rather than one town or village blending into the next. All this fabulous space has been perfect for walking Oaky, our now 4-month-old golden retriever puppy. It really is rather picture book idyllic, one of favourite walks is up in the hills a short drive from our house and the traffic on the way consists of pheasants and grouse running ahead of us in the road! I could go on and on, but I’ll leave you with a photo of a local loch I took a few years back and then I’ll jump into talking about the card, which is what I’m sure you arrived here for in the first place! I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
BOLD SENTIMENT
Over at Simon Says Stamp, several designers for World Card Making Day are using the same Chunky Christmas set and I can’t wait to see what everyone else has made. I love to see the different takes on the style, colours, placement etc – there are so many options with just one set and seeing the different styles we all come up with is a great testament to the flexibility of just one stamp set. I passed a lovely glossy holly bush on my walk this week and snow, well we get some snow in Scotland, perhaps not as much as elsewhere in the world but certainly more than the rest of the UK so that was the direction I was taking.
KEY INGREDIENTS
STEP BY STEP HOW TO
- Stamp a trio of Prismatic Snowflakes on Arches Cold-Pressed watercolour card in Versamark ink and emboss with White Embossing Powder.
- Lightly watercolour washes of Daniel Smith paints over the snowflakes. Splatter with white gouache and Perfect Pearls then add a few snowflakes with Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste and the Large Falling Snow stencil.
- Stamp the large Joy from the Chunky Christmas set in Versamark ink on Ivory card and emboss with Antique Gold Embossing Powder and trim out.
- Stamp two large holly berry and one small holly berry images in Antique Linen on the watercolour card and watercolour with Daniel Smith paints. Trim out. Add Glossy Accents to the berries and sparkle pen to the leaves and set aside to dry.
- Stamp a coordinating sentiment from the Chunky Christmas set in clear embossing ink on a Black card and white heat emboss. Trim to a skinny banner.
- Add the watercoloured panel to an Ivory card base with foam tape. Add more tape to the large Joy sentiment, the holly berries and the coordinating sentiment and arrange over the snowflakes.
- Embellish with sequins.

PIN ME
Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Oh how lovely!! We are one generation removed from those lovely hills to America so I get it. Well represented, friend!! Lovely card!!
JOY is exactly what this card is! One of the special ones that I want to copy so I can use it for a Christmas decoration. Outstanding and such a perfect way to use these stamps and dies which are a great set to have.
Beautiful card! Where you live is gorgeous, how lucky you are to have such beautiful, peaceful scenery. I just love all of your cards. You’re so talented. Stay safe and healthy! Have a wonderful week.
Beautiful Christmas card Debby and thank you for showcasing beautiful Scotland! So many exciting elements of this post. But the one that brought a tear to my eye? The Guess How Much I Love You stamp collection. That book was frequently read not just in our house but in the houses of my siblings and the phrase lives on in our every day conversation.
Beautiful card, amazing photograph. Love the cool colours. It’s an absolutely beautiful composition. Thank you Debby
Wow! Gorgeous and so snowy. I had to Pin This so I can use your idea in the future.
This is Really Beautiful!!! Such a dreamy winter feel!!!
I love this card! Cold and warm colors are balanced so well!
And I love Scotland, too. Twenty years ago we (my husband and me) rent a car and had a very nice trip from Edinburgh (so beautiful!) to Ullapool passing by Loch and Inverness. Amazing days…
Beautiful…both the photo and the card. It’s always a good day when there is a post from you.
Debbie your card is just so serene and beautiful, just like the picture of the loch. Always look so forward to your posts.
It’s been 20 years since I had the pleasure of being in Scotland and it’s a favorite memory! I was astounded by the beauty of the landscape and it looks to be the same. Your card is beautiful and an inspiration to me to get going on my Christmas cards!
