Watercoloured Christmas handmade card tutorial by Debby Hughes using supplies from Simon Says Stamp #watercolor #homemade

I’m delighted to be joining you from Scotland today to celebrate World Card Making Day. I thought about combining traditional imagery of Scotland into my card in some way; tartan, whiskey, beautiful scenery etc. I’ve done tartan before and I’ve never liked whiskey (shhh don’t tell!). So, I thought I’d mentioned the beautiful scenery we are so fortunate to be surrounded by. A silver lining of COVID and lockdown was my son turning to me one day and saying how that these strange days have allowed him the time to explore where we live and appreciate the wonder that is Scotland at it’s finest. I was listening to a podcast the other day, and I need to check my figures, but it highlighted that the population of Scotland is only half that of London. I think the figures are more like 60% but you get the idea, Scotland isn’t overcrowded which again I like. There is space between one town and the next, glorious, beautiful space rather than one town or village blending into the next. All this fabulous space has been perfect for walking Oaky, our now 4-month-old golden retriever puppy. It really is rather picture book idyllic, one of favourite walks is up in the hills a short drive from our house and the traffic on the way consists of pheasants and grouse running ahead of us in the road! I could go on and on, but I’ll leave you with a photo of a local loch I took a few years back and then I’ll jump into talking about the card, which is what I’m sure you arrived here for in the first place! I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

BOLD SENTIMENT

Over at Simon Says Stamp, several designers for World Card Making Day are using the same Chunky Christmas set and I can’t wait to see what everyone else has made. I love to see the different takes on the style, colours, placement etc – there are so many options with just one set and seeing the different styles we all come up with is a great testament to the flexibility of just one stamp set. I passed a lovely glossy holly bush on my walk this week and snow, well we get some snow in Scotland, perhaps not as much as elsewhere in the world but certainly more than the rest of the UK so that was the direction I was taking.
