Tim Holtz STAMPtember!! Need I say more?! We all love Tim and his STAMPtember set is always highly anticipated. He’s not disappointed this year with a fabulous set that is cute but not too cute, if you know what I mean, with those funny sentiments. I made two cards because I know I’ll be reaching for these to send to my friends with cats. The ones tangled in the lights from the tree is hilarious! Talking of trees, what do you think our chances are of having a tree up with a rambunctious pup who will be 7 months old by then?!! TIM HOLTZ STAMPTEMBER
The Tim Holtz STAMPtember set has four images in his snarky cat style but dressed for Christmas and with coordinating funny sentiments to go with them. There’s also a few add on images – present, small bird and two styles of snowflakes. As a reminder, these sets are limited edition so once they are gone they won’t be restocked. Grab one now while you can!
Here’s my first card of the two. I kept things simple to draw attention to the focal point by stamping the cat in Versafine Onyx Black ink and then stamping the bird on top. I then watercoloured with Daniel Smith paints.
For the background, I lightly blended Weathered Wood, Hickory Smoke and Black Soot in a vignette around the top portion of the card.
I took one of the snowflake images and stamped it in Versamark ink before sprinkling with Liquid Platinum powder and heat embossing. I repeated the stamping around the top of the card but alternating with white embossing powder to give interest and variation. I finished off with a good old splatter of white gouache, Pixie Dust and some of the ink squished onto my craft mat and picked up with a wet brush.
I accented with Glossy Accents for the eyes, black glaze gel pen for the nose, white gel pen highlights and gold gel pen for the bells on the end of his tail. Oh and Distress Mica Flakes for the snow kept in place with Collage Medium. This is a new favourite for me so be prepared to see this accenting all my holiday cards this year!
For my second card, I stamped the cat tangled in Christmas lights in Versafine Onyx Black ink and dried with a heat tool before applying masking fluid over the whole image.
Once dry I blended Scattered Straw and Wild Honey Distress Inks to create a glowing halo around the cat. I also used this same combination of Weathered Wood, Hickory Smoke and Black Soot around the edges.
Again, I used my heat tool to make sure everything was dry before removing the masking fluid. I then used Daniel Smith watercolours to paint the cat and also to create a tree branch for the cat to be hanging from.
I splattered with White Gouache, Pixie Dust and ink squished onto my craft mat. To finish I accented with a clear glaze of the eyes and bulbs and some more of that Distress Mica Flakes over the tree branch kept in place with Collage Medium.
I know many of you are going to love this STAMPtember set from Tim! If you want to see more inspiration using the set then look at the little thumbnails under the main picture on Simon’s web page or equally join Tim Holtz for his FaceBook live which I believe will be 10am PT.
