Hands up who loves to colour? My hand is waving high, and as a result, I adore the Big & Bold series from Colorado Crafts which give you large images you can really get your teeth into such as this Hugs And Pears set. I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

WATERCOLOURED PEAR

When I was watercolouring this pear, I followed a tutorial from Anna Mason. Anna has a fabulous range of ultra-detailed, realistic, watercolour tutorials. I painted along with the pear tutorial, but as I’m not so much into the very detailed style, I used a bigger brush and more wet-in-wet techniques to give a very slightly looser appearance.

The key to this look is lots and lots of light layers. Wait for each layer to dry before adding the next. Concentrate on saving highlights and building shadows. I enjoyed following along with Anna’s tutorial, and the result has an impact. However, I couldn’t help but add a few of my touches and way of working. If I repainted this pear, I’d keep in mind the tutorial but then build on that experience and let my influences have more of a free reign. On a technical aspect, I probably prefer more wet-in-wet bleeds and softness than I do the wet-on-dry accuracy if that makes sense.

Here’s a similar card I made painted with layers with a bold sentiment stamped overlapping the painted Summer Rose. You can find the original post here.
