I had the chance to play with one of the cute gnomes from the Spring Gnomes set while I was travelling a while ago. That was before the virus changed everything and travel now seems like something I won’t be doing for a while to come. At the time I paired it with a leafy panel I painted using the Leaves stencils set and on returning home, I still think they go well together and so whipped up this quick card using them and finished off with a sentiment from the Stronger Together set. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
WOODLAND GNOME WATERCOLOUR
I inked the gnome from the Spring Gnomes set in Antique Linen Distress Ink and dabbed off before stamping on Arches Hot-Pressed watercolour card so that I had the barest of outlines to work with. I then painted with Daniel Smith watercolours and added a few details and deeper shadows with Faber Castell Polychromo pencils. I trimmed around the gnome with scissors and set him aside while I worked on the background piece.
Gnomes live in woody places, right? So the Leaves stencils seem a good pairing. On a piece of Arches Hot-Pressed watercolour card, I lightly drew the leaves through the stencils with a pencil. I then painted on top with Daniel Smith watercolours. I added a strip of Slate card to one side to ground the panel, wrapped it with May Arts twine and then foam mounted it to a Neenah Desert Storm card base.
I stamped a greeting from the Stronger Together set in Versafine Onyx Black ink on Ivory card and trimmed out and then foam mounted the sentiment and gnome together over the twine.
Stay safe and well and stay inside if you can. Hopefully travelling to spend time with family will be possible again at some point.

Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Oh, how lovely :-)
Prettiest gnome card ever!
So charming! I love how you used the leaf stencil, too!
Debby, can you share exactly which Daniel Smith colors you used to paint this adorable card? I love the shading and color of the leaves as well as the gorgeous gnome colors!
Mary, I’m sorry it was a few weeks ago that I coloured these and my memory isn’t that good! My tip is to muddy up colours with a touch of its complementary colour. So if you want a muddy green, add a touch of red to your green mix. Hope that helps a little.
I love the coloring and combination of sets. Great final touches.
I always love this colour scheme you use, it’s so beautiful.
The card is adorable Debby.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and healthy and have a great weekend.
Really Beautiful card!!!
Such an amazing use of colours and the perfect shading. I love the background that you created with the leaves, it is stunning!
This card is very very very cute! I love the sweet background!
