This card is a first for me – a 5 x 7-inch card! A while back, I used to make a lot of little 4-bar cards (3 x 5-inch), but more recently I’ve been keeping with the traditional A2 size (4.25 x 5-inch). However, for today, I went large to showcase this new Detailed Leaf Cluster die from the just live Diecember release from Simon Says Stamp. The Leaf Cluster design has been one of my all-time favourites and here’s a rundown of the variations so far:
- Clustered Leaves die – die cuts solid leaves
- Outline Clustered Leaves die – die cuts a delicate leaf outline
- new Detailed Leaf Cluster die – a delicate leaf outline with leaf vein detail included
- Leaf Stencil
All three dies are the same size, and I’m making a mental note to play around with combining two or three of the dies on a card. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
SIMON SAYS STAMP DIECEMBER RELEASE
Before I jump into the details of the card, here’s a look at what is included in the new Diecember release.

LAYERS OF WHITE
The new Detailed Leaf Cluster die is so delicate, and I love the extra details of the veins. I wanted the die to be the star of the show, and for me, one way to showcase a fabulous die is to cut it from white card and layer it over a pop of colour. That was the original plan for this card, and as the card progressed, I included more white layers and details to bring interest into this clean and simple design.
To start the card, I watercoloured a piece of Arches Cold-Pressed card with a mix of Daniel Smith Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Turquoise, Ultramarine Turquoise and Lunar Black to create a graduated gradient of colour cascading down the panel. I die cut this with one of the A7 Thin Frames die. I love these new dies, and there’s a new A2 version too. The dies cut a panel and also a skinny frame to go around it. I used just the panel for my watercoloured piece. However, I took one of the larger A7 Thin Frames and debossed it into a piece of Bazzill Marshmallow card. I then mounted this panel on a 5 x 7-inch card base cut from the same card. Here’s where the layers of white start to build and add interest and dimension – the white card base followed by the white panel with debossed detail and then over the top will be the white Detailed Leaf Cluster die.
I added the white panel to the white card base with foam adhesive and then lined up the watercoloured panel and again used foam adhesive to adhere it. I added small pieces of foam adhesive to the back of the Detailed Leaf Cluster die cut from more Bazzill Marshmallow card and added that overhanging the watercoloured portion. I stamped a greeting from the Woodland Whimsy set in clear embossing ink on Black card and white heat embossed before trimming to a banner and adding to the card with foam tape. Finally, I accented the card with Hero Hues Aqua enamel dots and Pink & Main silver glossy dots.
Check out the whole of the Diecember release here! I’ll be back during the coming week with more inspiration.
