GINA K STAMPTEMBER EXCLUSIVE
You can’t beat a beautiful Christmas poinsettia bouquet and gorgeous script sentiments!
It seems that I am sticking to a tried and tested formula on my recent cards – a simple design of no-line watercoloured focal point mounted on a kraft card base. The ingredients for this formula are ones I would highly recommend anyone having in their craft supplies:
- decent watercolours – I like to use Daniel Smith
- good quality watercolour card – I use Arches and prefer the texture of cold-pressed
- Antique Linen Distress ink to stamp the image for a no-line look
- Perfect Pearls, Winsor & Newton white gouache and occasionally Daniel Smith Iridescent Gold for lots of lovely splatters
- Neenah Desert Storm 100lb card for creating sturdy card bases
I turn to this formula again and again so even though some of the supplies are not the cheapest, I get good use out of them, and they pay their way. So far I’ve used this formula for my 01 September reveal day card and also for the two previous days of exclusives – Colorado Crafts and Newton’s Nook. Seriously, give it a go! Do you have a tried and tested formula that works for you? I’d love to hear about it if so.
When watercolouring this beautiful image, I chose a different colour for the various types of foliage to give variation, and I always aim for shadows and highlights to help define one petal or leaf from another.
I’m always hesitant about stamping a sentiment over a watercolour, partially because if I mess up, then the time taken to paint the piece has gone to waste. Also, because I like a cold-pressed watercolour card, it is more challenging to get a cleanly stamped impression. However, this is where the Misti comes into its own! I stamped the sentiment overlapping the watercolour and heat embossed with Antique Gold embossing powder, but the impression was ‘skipping’ in places, and so I placed the card back in the Misti and repeated the process to get a better impression.
Here’s my second card with this Festive Flower set, I used the same offset design but this time I kept it quick and simple by stamping the bouquet on Tim Holtz Rose Gold Metallic card and white heat embossing – there’s such a shimmer on this card I love it!
I then stamped the same image twice more on vellum, and after white heat embossing, I cut out the poinsettia elements and layered over the top. I kept them in place with foam adhesive in the centre of the flower and then disguised the adhesive by adding a Rose Triad gem with Crystal Gems all around.
I stamped a simple sentiment from the Tabbed Sentiments Holiday set in clear embossing ink and heat embossed with Antique Gold powder, trimmed to a banner and added with foam adhesive to the top right of the panel. While I had the foam tape out, I also added the panel to an Ivory card base.
Finally, I accented with more Crystal Gems and also Love Potion droplets to keep the pinky gold look going throughout.

Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Wow! I love what you did with this stamp set. The painted card is gorgeous. But I’m a sucker for shiny pink things so your second card stole my heart. I love the contrast between the shiny and the ethereal of the vellum. Perfect.
I was absolutely awestruck when I saw your watercolor card. It is absolutely gorgeous! I wish that it was something that most of us could replicate but your skills of painting and shadowing are excellent and far above what most of us can manage. Just beautiful!
