How cute are these bees from the new July Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp?! I have been enjoying exploring gouache, but for today, my traditional watercolours called my name to get lovely texture in the honeycomb. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. WATERCOLOURED BEES
This card uses the stamp set from the July Card Kit, but there are lots more goodies included in the kit. Check it out here if you want to find out more.
I started by stamping the honeycomb images from the Bee Yourself set in clear embossing ink on Arches Hot Pressed watercolour card and white heat embossing. I find the smooth texture of the hot pressed card is the best when trying to get a good impression required for heat embossing. I then watercoloured the panel with Daniel Smith paints with Quinacridone Gold being a key player and splattered with leftover paint, iridescent gold paint and white gouache.
I stamped three of the bee images in Versfine Onyx Black ink (an excellent waterproof ink) and again watercoloured. I added in a few deeper shadows with Faber Castell pencils and dotted a few highlights with a white gel pen. I added Star Dust Stickles to the wings for a bit of sparkle. I foam mounted the bees to the watercoloured panel and added a double layer of foam under the wings, so they tipped up for extra dimension. I also added a little Crystal Glaze to some of the honeycomb hexagons for that luxurious dripping honey look.
For the sentiment, I stamped one of the Bee Yourself greetings in clear embossing ink on Black card from the kit and white heat embossed before trimming to a banner and adding to the panel with foam adhesive.
Finally, I added the panel to a card base cut and scored from Neenah Desert Storm card and accented with Nuvo droplets in Sugared Almond and Simply White plus a few gold sequins.
I have so many more ideas for this Card Kit. I love hexagons and honeycomb designs, and the kit has a little Hexagon die that I want to play around with.

Love this kit too Debby and the bee with the glasses is my fave. I love your card and as per usual, your water colouring is stellar!
My kit is on its way (along with a few other nice bits and pieces). I hoped you would post a card using the kit before it arrived and hey presto! It’s so cute and will be a great source of inspiration. I knew when I saw the kit that I had to have it.
You’re a very bad influence in the nicest possible way. I had a box from SSS last week too! You create so many beautiful pieces of art that I just have to try my hand with the gorgeous goodies myself. I’ll need an extension soon!
Thank you Debby, I just love your creations.
I’m sorry I’m hard on your wallet Delia! But I’m honoured that you continue to follow along and are always so supportive. Thank you <3

What a lovely card! I love the background. My kit is in the mail so I’m excited to try making this card. Thank you for the inspiration.
Beautiful card!!!
Shame there’s no video but guess there just aren’t enough hours in the day!! It’s a problem we all suffer with. Of course there’s be more hours in my day if I didn’t watch so many videos.
It’s a vicious circle!!!
Debby your work is always so beautiful, it inspires me to try harder every time I read one of your posts. Those bees are so uber cute, especially the one with those glasses. I like how you did the honeycomb in the background, very eye catching. Thank you so much for the inspiration you give me.
