You may have picked up that I’ve recently been enjoying playing with gouache – an opaque watercolour medium. I have two cute cards and envelopes to share with you today using the new Summa Time set from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. PLAYING WITH GOUACHE
Of the two cards, I actually made this card second. By then I’d got a little better accustomed to how I wanted to paint some of the images, and so I feel these three little squares are neater than my other card.
To start, I stamped three of the cute images from the Summa Time set in Whisper ink from Gina K on Arches Hot Pressed watercolour card (smooth for excellent flat coverage). I then painted the images with a combination of white gouache and Daniel Smith paints. Being opaque, the gouache covers the stamped impression easily and so I had to guestimate where to draw the face on the avocado with a black pen.
I painted around the images with a pale pink and then once dry die cut the three with a Basic Square die. I foam mounted these on a panel of Ivory card stamped with a greeting from the Say It All Friend set in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I mounted this panel, again with foam adhesive, onto a card base cut and scored from Neenah Desert Storm card and stamped in Versamark ink with the Round & Round Background set for a little interest.
I also stamped the avocado and greeting on the back of an envelope and again painted in the same way. I am enjoying creating a matching envelope at the moment. It does finish things off so nicely.
So this was the first card I made, again using the Summa Time set.
I randomly stamped images from the Summa Time set in Whisper ink on Arches Hot Pressed watercolour card and painted them with a combination of white gouache and Daniel Smith watercolours. The painting is slightly messier on this card, but I still quite like it!
I used white gouache to paint details and highlights and a black pen for the avocado faces. I stamped the simple Say It All Friend greeting again on Ivory card and foam mounted it over the background. I then foam mounted the panel to a card base cut and scored from Ivory card.
I tied this card into the other by using a kraft envelope and again stamped the greeting and avocado image and painted as before.
So there you have it, two cute cards and matching envelopes which I enjoyed making as I explore gouache that bit further. I have two sets of American Crafts gouache (their Paper Fashion set 1 and set 2) on their way to me, and I look forward to testing these out when they arrive. I’ll let you know how I get on!

Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Fun theme ! Love the happy vibes you feel from these card designs, great colours. I haven’t painted in gouache for many years, might have to dig them out again.
Looks great Debby, vibrant colours and such a different look than usual.
I love how you made these cards, especially the one with the three squares. The SSS Round and Round background stamp is stunning. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful inspiration. Have a great weekend.
All those smells !! Yes ! Me too. And don’t get me started on Stazon ink … ohhhh my. Love that smell. I did notice the warning on the back – after a year of sniffing it …that may explain a few things, lol. Love your cards & your videos. Thank you !!
