So here’s a card I made the other day while away from home, crafting with friends. I was unsure whether to share this card as I wasn’t 100% on it, but I think it is important to share things other than the “highlight reel” if that makes sense. If we only share the highlights, I think we miss out the real moments of doubt and effort that goes into the cards we create, and that can give people unrealistic expectations of what the creative process is like. When I’m making a card, there can be times when many failed attempts go in the bin before I work out the kinks to get somewhere I’m happy with. This card, I’m not 100% satisfied with, but you know what, that is OK. In reality, Let’s face it, I probably should give up trying to create anything when I’m with friends and enjoy the company and chat! I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
I then drew around a circle with a pencil and hand but the watercoloured piece. Ideally, I would have die cut with a circle die, but at the time I didn’t have one with me and couldn’t find one to borrow.
I stamped the Sketchy Lines Background on Toned Gray card in Whisper ink and then foam mounted the watercoloured circle on top, trimming the edges to fit the corner of the panel and then I added the panel to an Ivory card base. For the sentiment, I chose one from the Tiny Words Encouragement set and stamped it in clear embossing ink on a Black card before white heat embossing, trimming to a banner and adding on top of the watercoloured circle.
So there you have it. What would I change about this card? I think the colours got a little too muddy and I’d have liked more definition on some of the butterfly wings. Also, I wish I’d found a circle die to use; they give a much more professional finish than hand cutting, certainly when I hand cut at any rate! However, I do like this card, maybe not 100% like but like well enough and that will do just fine.
