Today’s blog post is part of an Altenew hop on Instagram starting at 9am Eastern, so please call by over there for the details after that time. However, I’m posting more of the features of this layered ink blended floral card here. I love Instagram, but you can’t beat some long-form information in my opinion! I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
LAYERED INK BLENDING
The hop theme is ‘Say It With Flowers’ and my immediate reaction was to pull out one of the gorgeous Altenew flower sets and get colouring. However, I’m enjoying more simple designs recently, it is where I started with a clean and straightforward style, and I decided to pull out the Layered Dahlia Stencils. Stencil A gives a beautiful Dahlia pattern, and then Stencil B lines up with Stencil A and adds the details to the petals and leaves. The combination provides an effective yet simple design.
Inspired by a blue flower in my garden, I chose a fresh blue mix of inks to use with a blending brush. However, if warmer colours are more to your taste, then check out this post where I first used these stencils. I sprayed the back of each stencil with a repositionable adhesive – love this stuff, and it makes stencilling a dream! I laid Stencil A on a white panel of card first and blended with Dew Drops and a little Desert Night for depth and then splattered with a solution of Perfect Pearls. I then lined up Stencil B on top and blended with Desert Night and Dusk inks for deeper shading on the petal and leaf details. Again I splattered with a solution of Perfect Pearls before lifting the stencil.
For the sentiment, I took a birthday greeting from the Botanical You set (I’m on a mission to increase my birthday card stash) and stamped in clear embossing ink on a black card before white heat embossing. I trimmed to a banner and added over the ink blended panel. I then added the panel to a white card base with foam adhesive.
Finally, I added accents. I have always enjoyed adding coordinating accents to my cards, enamel dots, twine, sequins etc. and at the moment, my thing seems to be these Dream Drops and gems from Nuvo. The Water Droplets, in particular, were the perfect colour to tone with the card and their shape made them ideal for nestling into the nooks of the Dahlia design.
OK, so that’s all from me today, but please pop on over to Instagram after 9am Eastern to check out Altenew’s first Instagram hop. I have a busy week for you next week with three new releases! I hope you’ll call by to get all the details and the first look at new products.
