I think the Pretty Peonies Background set from Simon Says Stamp has to be my favourite from the latest release and so having used it in a bright, loose style with white embossing previously, today I wanted to give it a go for some no-line watercolouring with my favourite muted colour palette. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
NO LINE WATERCOLOURED FLORAL BACKGROUND
The delicate blooms of the Pretty Peonies Background set are perfect for no-line colouring with the petals and leaves being large enough to get some detail into them but not so large to be intimidating. I stamped the image on Arches Cold Pressed watercolour card with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
I put on a TV program to watch as I wiled away watercolouring with Daniel Smith paints. I used light layers and dropped in deeper tones in the wet paint where shadows would naturally fall and made sure there was plenty of gradient of colour along the length of the petal, and this helps the petals stand out from one another – so that the pale tip of the petal rests next to the darker shadows of the base of the next petal and defines the shapes.
When the watercolouring was complete, I splattered with leftover paint and a solution of Perfect Pearls. Also using some of the leftover paint, I watercoloured a scrap of Hot Pressed watercolour card (smooth texture for clearer stamping) and when dry stamped a sentiment from the Blossoming set in clear embossing ink and then white heat embossed before trimming the piece to a banner.
I wrapped twine twice around the watercoloured panel and tied in a bow and then foam mounted the sentiment on top. Then, in turn, I foam mounted the panel on a Fog card base.
I added minimal embellishments, just a couple of sequins and pearls.
COMPARING THE TWO
I really enjoy using the same supplies to create two very different cards. The card I made previously compared to today’s card – same Pretty Peonies Background stamp set, same watercolours etc. and yet totally different looks!
