Hello, today I have a card using the Bear Family set from Picket Fence Studios which I have accented to add more details. I’ve seen this technique used by multiple cardmaking artists using similar large critter border sets (here’s a fabulous example by Kristina Werner), so I certainly can’t take credit for this idea. However, when I got this set, I knew this was the direction I wanted to take it as the accents would bring colour to the scene with the white Polar Bears and I didn’t feel there was a need to reinvent the wheel. Oh and also this is my first Christmas card of the year! I totally missed the Christmas in July theme – late to the party as always LOL. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. I stamped the large Bear Family border along the bottom of a piece of Neenah Solar White card in Intense Black ink. I then used a black Copic friendly marker to draw scarves, mittens, jumpers and hats onto the bears. I kept the illustration add-ons simple and accenting like this isn’t tricky – a scarf is two parallel lines horizontally and two vertically. I then coloured with Copic markers and accented the woolly accessories with a white gel pen.
I covered the front of a white A2 card with patterned paper from my stash, but as I write this, I can’t see it in stock, sorry. I then foam mounted the Bear Family border over the top.
For the sentiment, I cut a piece of patterned paper which had repeating words over it to include just a Merry Christmas greeting and then foam mounted this above the bears.
Finally, I accented with a trio of Glossy Dots from Pink & Main.
It’s been so dark and grey here recently, I’m certainly feeling the beginning of the changing seasons and my photographs are suffering the lack of light too at times. So I popped this card on my windowsill to get as much light as possible, and this photo probably reflects the bright, airy, happy, beary scene better!
