Today, I’m taking part in an exciting blog hop. Spellbinders have created an Exclusives Collection which is only available at select online, such as Simon Says Stamp, and local independent retailers. This exclusive collection is not available from Spellbinders online store. What a lovely way of Spellbinders supporting our stores! I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
For my card, I used the Happy Octopus, Layered Foliage dies, and Hello Expressions set along with my Platinum die cutting machine. I felt these dies were both fun and elegant at the same time. I tried a few ways of colouring the dies but found my favourite was with the smooth blending of Distress Oxide Inks. I used the following:
- Octopus – Tattered Rose, Seedless Preserves, Black Soot
- Foliage 1 – Squeezed Lemonade, Wild Honey, Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple
- Foliage 2 – Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Faded Jeans
- Foliage 3 – Twisted Citron, Lucky Clover
For the Octopus, after die cutting, I kept the die in place and then rubbed Seedless Preserves through the holes in the die to add detail. After which, I added a few white gel pen dots.
For the background, I cut a slope from masking paper and then blended Antique Linen for the sand and Broken China for the sea on a piece of Bristol card. I spritzed with water and soaked up the colour for highlights and also splattered with a solution of Perfect Pearls for sparkle. I then added the die cuts with foam adhesive.
For the sentiment, I stamped ‘my friend’ from the Hello Expressions set in Versafine Onyx Black ink in the top right corner of the panel and combined it with a ‘hello’ die cut from more Bristol card and added with foam adhesive. I then foam mounted the panel to a white card base before adding wiggle eyes to the octopus and liberally added dots of Glossy Accents around.
