I have a bright and colourful card to share today. This card uses the new Hello Summer stamps and matching dies from Neat & Tangled, part of the May release which will go live this Friday 08 May. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
My background was inspired by this card from Kristina Werner – such a stunning watercolour wash. My wash didn’t turn out quite as smooth as Kristina’s stunner, and I think this is because I used a hot pressed watercolour card rather than a cold pressed one. The difference between the two cardstock is the texture. Hot pressed it smooth whereas cold pressed is textured and its the textured nature of cold pressed which makes it my favourite card to watercolour on. The texture enables the paint to blend and smooth out, and the card seems to stay wet for longer too allowing for more manipulation of the paint. Whereas you are more likely to get hard lines on hot pressed paper. However, as I knew I wanted to stamp the sentiment block from the Hello Summer set on top of my watercolour wash, I chose to go with the smooth surface of the hot pressed card to get the best impression.
I used paints from Daniel Smith – Rose of Ultramarine, Quinacridone Coral, Mayan Yellow and Ultramarine Turquoise. I used a broad stripe of the Mayan Yellow and let the Quinacridone Coral mix with the upper edge to form a peachy orange, and then the Ultramarine Turquoise blended with the lower edge to form a nice green. When dry, I stamped the sentiment block from the Hello Summer set in clear embossing ink, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.
I added a focal point sentiment by stamping the Hello from the set in clear embossing ink on Slate card and white heat embossing before trimming to a skinny banner and adding over the watercolour with foam adhesive. I added to this the Summer die cut using the Hello Summer dies. I cut the shadow from Candy Hearts card and the word die from White card, adhered one over the other and kept in place with foam adhesive.
To accompany my summery background, I added the cute rhino in his swim gear from the previously released Beach Day stamp and matching die set which I coloured with Copic markers. Finally, I added Starry Night sequins to accent.
