Today I’m taking a look at the new Altenew May Release of stamps and dies. This post is part of a blog hop to celebrate the latest release. There’s more information on the blog hop below, but for now, let’s take a look at what’s in the new release. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.

CROWN BLOOM
I think I’m predictable, but when I saw the lovely line images in the Crown Bloom set I knew I wanted to get out my watercolours! I stamped two blooms with a few leaves and flower sprigs around them using Antique Linen Distress Ink on Arches Cold Pressed watercolour card. I created masks for the flowers to give the appearance of the flowers being in the foreground with the other elements tucked in behind.
I then loosely watercoloured the panel with Daniel Smith watercolours. I love this no line style of watercolouring and in particular when you let the lightest colours almost fade out to virtually nothing – it adds a lovely airy feel to the painting. I also splattered the panel with a good dose of a solution of Perfect Pearls.
I’ve seen a lot of lovely pen and ink painting recently, where the painting is accessorised with a little black pen work. I used a Faber Castell Pitt pen, size S, and highlighted areas of the painting. This style was something new to me, and it needs more practice but I liked the result, and I think I’ll be trying it again.
I stamped a sentiment from the Build A Flower Chrysanthemum set in clear embossing ink on Slate card and white heat embossed before trimming to a banner and adding to the centre of the card with foam adhesive. I then added the panel to a Neenah Desert Storm card base.
BOTANICAL YOU
The Botanical You set is so original. There are four separate layers to stamp the letters – two leaves and two flower/berries. I used a colour combination of Olive, Moss, Rouge and Velvet and then cut out the letters with their matching dies.
For the sentiment, I stamped a coordinating one from the Botanical You set in clear embossing ink on a scrap of card I’d coloured with Velvet ink and then white heat embossed before trimming to a banner.
I used a piece of Pink Fresh Let Your Heart Decide patterned paper as a background. I liked how the pattern added something without distracting too much from the letters. I foam mounted the Botanical You letters and then the sentiment over the top. I added the panel to a white card base and added a trio of enamel dots and then finally paired the finished card with a Gina K Fresh Asparagus envelope.

I’m just getting caught up on my emails so I’ve missed the hop, but I just wanted to say that these cards, as always, are just gorgeous!! I would love to see a video using that first technique. ☺
Keep a watch out for Monday as I’ll have a video of a similar card
