WATERCOLOURING WITH DISTRESS OXIDES
At the moment I’m busily building my collection of Distress Oxide inks and I was delighted to see that the April Card Kit has TWO of the new colours, Mermaid Lagoon and Squeezed Lemonade, included in the kit! I decided to experiment with watercolouring with these Distress Oxides.
I started by stamping one of the leaf images and a few of the butterflies from the Beautiful Day stamp set in clear embossing ink on Hot Pressed watercolour card and white heat embossing. The smooth texture of hot pressed card means that you get the best stamped impression. I then pressed the two colours of Distress Oxide on to an acrylic block to act as my palette. Mermaid Lagoon is a beautiful rich blue and Squeezed Lemonade a bright happy yellow and combined they made a lovely mint green. I was very loose applying the colour but in general, I added the mixed mint green to the leaves, the yellow to the butterflies and the blue in the in-between areas. The white embossed lines of the stamped images resisted the Distress Oxides and the colours puddled and pooled around the raised lines. I applied a couple of layers of colour and then splattered some of the spare mixtures on top. I also splattered a good dose of Perfect Pearls solution too – can you see all that layered colour and sparkle in the photo above?
I stamped one of the sentiments from the Beautiful Day set in clear embossing ink on Vellum and white heat embossed before die cutting with a Stitched Oval. I adhered the vellum with tiny pieces of foam adhesive hidden behind the embossed sentiment.
Many of the card kits sell out fast, so if you would like to guarantee a kit each month, then you can sign up for a subscription at the reduced cost of $29.99 per month (plus P&P).
