I’m going back to my clean and simple roots with today’s card. I still love clean and simple design, and when I go in a shop and see cards on the shelf, it is those that I would reach for even now. If I still bought cards that is. Sometimes I’ve found it hard to share a card with just the barest of designs. It’s always a temptation to add more, but as they say, less can be more and so that’s where today’s card came from. That desire to keep things clean and simple. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
I stamped the Succulent Journalling Card with clear embossing ink on Arches Cold Pressed watercolour card, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I watercoloured the succulents with Daniel Smith watercolours using lots of layers to build up the colour.
I found that the wide banner on this image was the perfect size for the two line sentiment from So Many Sentiments. I stamped the sentiment in clear embossing ink, sprinkled with Antique Gold embossing powder and heat set. I then trimmed the piece to a tag shape, punched a hole in the top and threaded with twine.
I mounted the tag on to a panel of Fog card and in turn on to an Ivory card base. Finally, I accented with clear sequins.
I resisted thoughts to dress this card up more with an interesting background, and instead let the subtle watercolours of the succulent tag stand proud as the focal point.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
I know many of you have enjoyed my exploration of art books, photography tutorial etc and so I thought you might like to see something a little different – digital art!
When I first got my iPad I thought I’d be using the Procreate app a lot to create on the go. However, I didn’t spend the time to get to know how to use the app. So I sought out this easy to follow tutorial on how to create a monster from Nic Squirrell on Skillshare. The tutorial was clearly set out and I’m so pleased I managed to create a couple of cute monsters! Of course, I made them in a favourite muted palette but hey they wouldn’t be my monsters otherwise LOL. Along with access to this class by Nic there are 18000+ other classes on Skillshare. I think the next one I’m going to do is a watercolour one by Ohn Mar Win 😃👍🏻
Here’s a little screen flow video of creating the big guy! I had great fun and I will now be using my iPad and Procreate app on the go more often. Check out Nic’s tutorial here.

PIN ME
Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
What beautiful colours on your tag Debby, it made a beautiful card on its own (without embellishments). Lovely.
Cute monsters too. I am not that tech savvy…LOL
Beautiful card Debby, such delicate colours. I love it. I think the little sequins just add that finishing touch to make it special.
What a beautiful card! I love that you decided to stick with the plain backgrounds verses dressing it up. Though I am curious what one would look like on a more decorated background? Maybe you could make another with a fun background! Happy crafting ❤
Just like you say clean and simple, however you forgot something…..clean, simple and GORGEOUS!
Awww, thanks Henriette!
Beautiful tag, and such pretty colouring Debby! Well done on your digital art – that art form fascinates me and I often download stuff from Creative Market, hope yo see your work there soon :-)
It fascinates me too! I love the illustrative style and I want to create more of this type of art but its a steep learning curve. I think it will be quiet some time before I could be putting anything on Creative Market LOL.
What is the paint brush you used and where can we get one? Lovely card and tags. Love your work.
Hi Pamela, the paint brush is an Escoda travel brush. You can see it in the supplies thumbnails at the bottom of this post and clicking on that shop icons will take you to where it can be found. Hope that helps :D https://limedoodledesign.com/2018/02/messy-watercolouring-2/
