Hello! Today I have a messy watercoloured card to share. I have just returned from a little holiday with the children for their half-term break, and I packed my watercolours as well as a few stamped panels. So you can expect a few watercolour cards for my next few posts. However, no videos I’m afraid as we were away from home. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. I’d picked out this cute squad of Best Friends to take with me and I stamped them in Versafine Onyx Black ink on Arches Hot Pressed watercolour card. Hot pressed card is smooth, so you get a good stamped impression. I then tucked this panel along with others in my packing along with my Daniel Smith watercolours in their inexpensive, light palette and a few brushes including this Escoda travel brush. I then enjoyed some downtime with my watercolours while the kids were in the pool. I wanted to watercolour these cute critters in a messy style and leaving white areas as highlights.
With the grey donkey, yellow lion and fox and brown reindeer I knew I wanted lots of colour in the background to liven things up. I roughly watercoloured a night sky, adding lots of colour near the horizon and then blending into a deep Indigo for the top of the card. Please see the supplies list below for the others colours I used. I added a few layers of colour to add interest and also brought in white gouache to the colours to add highlights and give a galaxy look to the background. I then splattered liberally with white gouache for a starry night sky.
When I got home, I just trimmed the panel to fit an A2 Neenah Desert Storm card base and then white heat embossed a sentiment from the Best Friends set. I wanted to keep the colours consistent and so I watercoloured a scrap of card with Quinacridone Coral and when dry stamped the sentiment in clear embossing ink before sprinkling with white embossing powder and heat setting. I added a trio of sequins to accent and called this simple card done.
