CHRISTMAS SQUAD
The Christmas Squad stamp set is so fun, and I wanted to pack as many of the images on to a card as I could and watercolour them!
I tried a new to me watercolour card, Fabriano 5 cold pressed. It’s more student grade rather than artist quality but it is much whiter than many of my other watercolour papers and being student grade, the price point was favourable too.
I used a Mini Misti to help stamp the images on the watercolour paper in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I stamped each image at least twice to get a good impression, and I also varied the angles as I jigsawed the pattern together to give more interest.
I then watercoloured, and as the background was quite busy, I kept things simple, painting just one layer of each colour and not worrying about adding shadows and details too much. I used my Daniel Smith watercolours most of which are included in my Daniel Smith Dot Sheet stocked exclusively at Simon Says Stamp – it’s a great way to try the paints and decide if you like them.
The Fabriano paper coped very well with this simple watercolour style. I still might reach for one of my artist grade papers if I was painting a floral image with lots of layers but for this quick painting style, the Fabriano did just grand.
When the painting was finished, I splattered the panel with a solution of Perfect Pearls and also with White Gouache then when dry, die cut the panel with a Wonky Rectangle.
I chose one of the fun sentiments from the Christmas Squad set, stamped it in clear embossing ink on Black card and white heat embossed before trimming to a skinny banner.
I added the banner to the top third of the panel with foam adhesive and then, in turn, added the panel to a white side folded card base. Finally, I added a trio of clear sequins.
