Today I have a card using a technique I’m calling mosaic watercolouring, or should that be spotlight watercolouring? Hmmm, hopefully, you can see where I’m going with this anyway. I selectively watercoloured areas of the Centre Cut Kaleidoscope Background from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
I started by stamping the Centre Cut Kaleidoscope Background in clear embossing ink on Arches Hot Pressed watercolour card and white heat embossed. Then using Daniel Smith watercolours, I selectively painted areas of the pattern in a soft blue and green colour combination.
I made sure to vary the depth of colour and tone as I painted different shapes within the pattern to give variety.
When dry, I went over some areas of the pattern with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and then sprinkled on Rock Candy Distress Glitter.
For other areas, I added Nuvo Crystal Glaze to give a shiny finish and finally, with a white gel pen I added dots to highlight different sections of the pattern.
For the sentiment I stamped the Joy and matching greeting from the Stained Glass Greetings set by Simon Says Stamp in clear embossing ink and white heat embossed. I used the matching die to cut out the Joy and trimmed the coordinating sentiment into a skinny strip.
I cut the panel with a Wonky Rectangle and mounted it onto a Desert Storm card base. I then added a Maryanne and Kate snowflake which I die cut from white card, rubbed with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and dunked in Rock Candy Distress Glitter. I foam mounted the sentiment pieces over the snowflakes and then accented with a few Snowfall sequins.

Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Wow Debby how beautiful, the colours you chose for this stamp really makes the mosaic come to life!
Gorgeous card! Very inspiring…
Such warm snuggly colors on this beautiful card!
Gah! I LOOOOVE this card, Debby! I don’t have this stamp but I do have SSS Elizabeth stamp which might work for this technique. I’d LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see you do a video with this technique, perhaps using metallic water colors. :D (huge smiley face)
…just pinned it.
I’ll keep the video in mind Dori. Simon’s cling backgrounds are just great and lots of them would work for this technique including the Elizabeth one. I hope you give it a try.
This is so pretty!
Wonderful subdued colors! Beautiful card.
Debby I am in love…..with this gorgeous card. I adore this stamp and you made something special with it with this great colourcombination. Thanks you for this inspiration.
I’m always one to reach for the soft, subtle colours than the brights. I’m so glad you liked it Henriette :D
I always love seeing your water coloring. I love the soft colors you used and the wonderful stamp. Very pretty card.
This is a beautiful card !! I love the neutral colours.
