Today’s cards using the Winter Rose set are inspired by a raincoat I saw in Cath Kidston while shopping with my sister and niece in the summer holidays. I spotted the pattern of grey multi-layered florals on a solid pink background and thought it would be perfect for a card sometime. I then didn’t think about it again until I saw the new Winter Rose set and thought it suited this ‘etched floral’ style perfectly. Here’s an image from Cath Kidston of tea towels using the etched floral pattern.
I started these cards by stamping the solid image from the Winter Rose set on masking paper and working out a layout of where the flowers would be.
I then lined up each layer of the rose on top of the mask. I omitted the solid layer for the stamping so that the first layer of the flower is the white card. I then added each more detailed layer, working through from Limestone, Silver Stone, Industrial Diamond and then finally Permanent Black.
I then coloured around the flowers with markers using RV11 for the pink card and BV17 for the blue one. I had to go over the colouring three times to get a relatively smooth, solid colour for the background. An alternative would be to mask the roses and blend inks over the background.
For the sentiment, I kept it simple, die cutting the ‘love’ die from the Script Words set from both white and black card.
I then layered the white die cut over the black die cut, slightly offset to create the look of a shadow and adhered with foam adhesive.
As a final touch, I sprinkled the cards with sequins and droplets of Crystal Glaze.
