I love seeing all the galaxy watercolour backgrounds and thought it time I put paint to paper and have a go. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
I started this card by taping a piece of cold pressed watercolour card to a board with painters tape and then using a pencil to draw around a circle die. With the circle mapped out on my card I used Daniel Smith watercolours to paint the galaxy. I started with a diagonal of Quinacridone Pink with some Rose Of Ultramarine mixed in and then worked my way from the circle edges with Blue Apatite Genuine and dotted in Lunar Black for some depth to the edges. I do love these Daniel Smith granulating paints so much; seriously fun! Once I’d got the base of the colours down I brought in Winsor & Newton White Gouache to add highlights and Finetec Gold Pearl for interest and shimmer. When dry I splattered generously with white gouache to add lots of stars.
While I had my paints out I also painted a strip of hot pressed watercolour card (smooth for clear stamping) for the sentiment. Again I used Quinacridone Pink with some Rose Of Ultramarine mixed in and when dry I white heat embossed a sentiment from Shine On. I love that sentiment and it brings back so many memories or reading to the children when they were little.
I also die cut the Space Journey dies from the watercolour card and lightly watercoloured a moon in Schmincke Jaune Brilliant Dark with Schmincke Sepia Brown and a touch of Finetec Gold Pearl. The stars I painted with the Finetec Gold Pearl.
