It’s time for my monthly video feature over at Simon Says Stamp’s blog – Doodling With Debby! This card was inspired by one I created way back in 2013. I’d seen embossing paste used in mixed media and wanted to try it for card making. At the time there weren’t many stencils and I created a DIY stencil by die cutting card. Now 4 years later we have a wonderful array of stencils available, such as the Circular Lace one I used for this card, and I’m still very much in love with swiping embossing paste through a stencil as I was then. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
I hope you will pop over to Simon’s Blog to see the video for this card :D Along with sharing how I make the card I’ve included a couple of quick tips too – how to easily cut skinny banners and also making those big rolls of foam tape more manageable. Recently I shared on Instagram about the tools I use to trim skinny strips. Now I know this method isn’t for everyone but for me it comes down to:
- clear ruler with a metal edge and a grid
- a knife/scapel – I’m enjoying using these Pen Blades
- and finally a cutting mat
I’ve been cutting my skinny strips using this method for years. You can see the process in the video on Simon’s Blog :D

Debby, this card is stunning! The stencil/embossing paste texture is so beautiful and I can imagine using this technique on cards for many occasions. The vellum and gold accents are simply the icing on the cake. I loved the video, too. Have a nice day. :-)
Oh, Debby, this design work is GORGEOUS!!!! Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration you bring! ♥
Gorgeous card, Debby, the shimmer on that gold spray is beautiful. I might just have to CASE this for an anniversary card!
This is just lovely. I love the details and touches of gold. Adding the vellum heart is so pretty.
