Today I’m hosting the June 2017 Inspiration Challenge on the Altenew Blog. The photo I chose is one of a bouquet of flowers I bought from the local florist. I love to take pictures and the bouquet made a beautiful subject to experiment on.

When I look at the inspiration for a challenge I like to study the image and take a few ideas from it and then not look at the image again. I’ve got my ideas in place and I just want to run with them. When I was looking at the picture it was the graphic as a whole which struck me with the gradient of colour rising from a deep purple at the base through a nice rose colour to the cream at the top. I also was taken with the spray of creamy white flowers through the centre of the bouquet and so with those features in mind I created this watercoloured gradient background with white on white floral focal point.

For the gradient of colour in the background I took a piece of watercolour card and started with a light wash of Daniel Smith Rose Of Ultramarine and then slowly built up layers with a deeper concentration at the base of the panel. Once I’d built up enough colour I splattered with paint and then Perfect Pearls solution to add more interest before setting aside to dry. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. For the flowers I stamped a selection of images from the Amazing You set in Morning Frost ink on Ivory card and die cut with their matching dies. I then picked a few more of the images and stamped them in clear embossing ink on Vellum before white heat embossing and again die cutting with their matching dies. I then added the flowers and leaves to the watercoloured panel with foam adhesive. The variation in opaque and clear flowers I think adds interest when using a white on white colour scheme.

Next I stamped a sentiment from the Amazing You set in clear embossing ink on Slate card, white heat embossed and trimmed to a skinny banner and added over the bouquet with foam adhesive. To accent, I tucked in a few iridescent sequins and then mounted the finished panel on a Pale Gray card base.

I hope the inspiration photo sparks your creativity and you’ll join me with this month’s challenge :D
