The Circle Doodle Background is one of my favourite background stamps – I love the overlapping, loosely drawn circles. I paired the Circle Doodle Background with the Butterfly Drift dies for this set of three cards. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
I started by treating a piece of cold pressed watercolour card with EK Success powder tool and stamping the Circle Doodle Background with clear embossing ink using the Misti to help me get a good impression. I then sprinkled on white heat embossing powder and heat embossed. Hmmm, I love cold pressed watercolour card but due to its textured nature it isn’t as easy to get a good stamped impression. So I repeated the stamping again on two pieces of hot pressed watercolour card and got a better impression due to the smooth surface of this card.
I then turned to my watercolours. Can I please just live in a world of Rose of Ultramarine, Undersea Green and Ultramarine Turquoise?!! I can’t seem to get enough of these colours at the moment LOL. For this pink/purple card I used Daniel Smith Rose of Ultramarine with Winsor & Newton Opera Rose – giving it a couple of applications and drying in between to get a heavy saturation of colour. When dry I then splattered with a solution of Perfect Pearls.
This card uses Ultramarine Turquoise and Undersea Green and I adore these colour together! This is the card using the cold pressed watercolour card and you can see that the Circle Doodle Background isn’t as cleanly embossed as it is in the other two examples. However, I do still love the texture this card provides and I’m torn as to which version I like best.
For this last example I used Schmincke Translucent Yellow mixed with Winsor & Newton Opera Rose to give vibrant yellow and orange tones. Once my watercoloured pieces had dried I die cut them with a Nested Circle die and mounted them on a Fog Stitched Rectangle panel on a white side folding card base.
I then cut three of the Butterfly Drift dies from white card and adhered on top of the colourful circles. The sentiment comes from the Running With Your Heart set and is white heat embossed on Slate card. Finally I added crystal sequins to accent.
To me the white butterflies represent a blank canvas where anything is possible, you just need to choose your path. With my daughter and her friends sitting exams and also trying to decide what to study at University and where the best University for that course is, I thought these cards would be a great pick me up to encourage them that they can do anything.
