Well hello on this bright and sunny day … OK a few rain showers thrown in for luck! I want to thank you for the amazing response to the email subscribers giveaway and new email subscribers newsletter. A huge welcome to those that have just subscribed to join in the fun. On to today’s cards which I peeked at in my newsletter. When I saw the April Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp I knew I wanted to colour the Wild Cuddly Critters stamp set at the first chance I got. In fact when my kit arrived it barely hit my desk before I was happily colouring away. The elephant was killing me with his cuteness but I had to colour the giraffe too. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
A favorite technique recently is to colour with pencils on kraft and I thought these guys would be perfect for that. I stamped both the elephant and giraffe with Versafine Onyx Black ink on a Stitched Rectangle of Toned Grey and I also stamped the ‘wild thing’ sentiment underneath too. A perfect fit, well almost – I managed to squeeze the line of hearts in for the elephant but the length of the giraffe meant I had to omit the hearts on that card. Still cute though! I coloured with Faber Castell pencils so that I had the sharpness of point these pencils give over the Prismacolor ones for getting in the nooks and smaller areas such as the pattern on the giraffe.
Once coloured I used a white gel pen to add a few details to the critters (whites of the eyes, elephant toe nails, highlights) and I also used this pen to colour in the letters of the sentiment too. On the elephant card I used a pink/gold sakura gelly roll pen to colour in the hearts – nice and opaque for colouring on kraft and a lovely sparkle and shimmer too :D
I mounted the finished kraft panels on white card and then debated whether to go bright and colourful with the Lawn Fawn papers included in the kit or subtle with a more neutral card base …. well colourful won! The Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Rainbow papers were just too adorable not to use so I mounted the panels on to a rectangle of those and then finally on to a white card base.
I adhered each layer with foam adhesive so there’s lots of dimension in this otherwise clean and simple card.
Well that’s me for today, I’ll be back on Wednesday with two posts – first a Copic colouring video and then second a look at the new stamps and dies coming from Altenew. Have you seen the Altenew peeks? Lots of fun new products coming soon :D
