Back in December Simon Says Stamp released their new Hey Love products. It was so busy back then for everyone that there wasn’t time to celebrate. Well, today we are putting that right with a good old blog hop to inspire your Valentine’s crafting! I’ve two watercolored card backgrounds for this post and both cards use Kristina’s Love set. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
PLAID WATERCOLORED VALENTINE’S
More information on the blog hop below but for now let’s look at a couple of projects. This card was inspired by a plaid fabric heart I recently found. Plaid and not tartan? Yes! Here’s a post I wrote previously which looks at the differences but basically:
“With most every tartan, the pattern on the stripes running vertically is exactly duplicated on the horizontal axis too. Basically, this matching pattern in both directions will create a grid … When looking at a simple plaid, you’ll notice that the stripes — either in color, size, or pattern — are not the same in both directions.” Source
So with its varying widths of stripes and the order in which they occur, this watercolored background is a plaid :)
Here’s the heart which inspired this card. Love the grey mixed in with the red and neutrals. I started with the watercoloring and on a piece of watercolored card painted wide and narrow stripes of red and grey watercolors one way and then turned and repeated the other direction. To add more detail to the pattern I add a few white gel pen lines once the paint had dried. I then cut the panel with a Stitched Rectangle and this base made a nice backdrop to a collection of die cuts.
On a Stitched Circle of watercolor card I mounted a Nested Heart cut from patterned paper, an envelope from Envelope Purse cut from more watercolored card and the little heart that comes from the set I watercolored and finally a Love die cut from silver glitter card.
Would you like to see more watercolored plaid and tartan backgrounds? Check out the fabulous Kristina Werner, I’ve also got a couple more examples here and here.
LOVE IS ALL WE NEED
For my second card I stamped the beautiful outlined love word from the Love stamp set in clear embossing ink multiple times on watercolor card and white heat embossed. I then roughly watercolored over the top letting the heat embossing resist the paint. I add paint splatters and Perfect Pearls solution splatters and then when dry cut with a Stitched Rectangle.
I didn’t want to cover up too much of this background so kept it really simple with one of the coordinating sentiments from the set stamped in clear embossing ink on Slate card and white heat embossed. I trimmed the sentiment to a skinny banner and foam mounted to the panel, added a few Sparkling Clear and Charcoal sequins and mounted the finished panel to an Ivory card base.
