The 14th of the month means it’s time for the December Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp! For today I’m just using the Merry & Bright stamp set but you can check out all the fun of what’s included in the kit below. I’ve linked all supplies at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.

I’ve noticed a recent resurgence of coloring pencils, not just in adult coloring books, but across in to cards and projects too. I was so inspired by Stephanie Klauck’s pencil coloring that I created two projects recently with just pencils. I often add pencil details after Copic coloring or watercoloring but on this card it’s just the pencils :D

I started this card by stamping the cute Rudolph from Merry & Bright in Intense Black ink, created a mask for him from a post it note and then stamped the tree and present. I then stamped the snowflakes and sentiment in clear embossing ink and white heat embossed. I cut the scene with a Nested Circle and then got ready to rock and roll with those pencils!

I’ve got both Prismacolor pencils and Faber Castell pencils. I like the harder lead of the Faber Castell ones for adding fine detail as they keep a hard point nicely. However, for coloring this scene I chose the Prismacolor pencils; I find being softer they blend easier when coloring the whole of an image. Having colored in the tree, Rudolph and present I added gold gel pen to the star and bells on Rudolph’s collar and white gel pen accents to the tree and the spots on the present. A new purchase for me has been a set of Spica glitter pens and that’s what you see for Rudolph’s antlers, hooves, nose, the baubles on the tree and the darker dots on the tree and present.

I finished off this card by adding the circle to a circle of Doodlebug patterned paper from the kit and then on to a scalloped Marshmallow card base
