It’s Clearly Besotted sneak peek time and I’m kicking off the August release with this gorgeous English Roses set! A good stamp layering set really packs a punch with little effort. I think the trickiest part to them is deciding the colors and after that it is so easy to create stunning blooms and leaves. All supplies are linked at the end of this post. You know I love my dye inks, but one of the characteristics I love about them is that the colors smooth out as they dry. I find though that this can make them tricky for getting really crisp stamp layering. Now before I fell in love with dye inks I had a bunch of pigment inks so I dug around in the depths of my draws (hoarding tendency!) to find those for this card. Only thing is they are so old (back when American Crafts used to make pigment inks etc) that I can’t link to them anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations for inks which work really well with stamp layering?
Having stamped the three layers for the flowers and leaves I trimmed them out and foam mounted them on a Stitched Square blended with Broken China and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks. To ground the roses I added them to a white Chisholm Wreath and sprinkled some peach sequins around. For the sentiment I white heat embossed one from the very versatile new Message Me set on Black card and then mounted the finished panel on a Fog card base.
You will be able to check out all the new sets at Clearly Besotted and Simon Says Stamp at 10pm UK time, 5pm EST on 5th August. In the meantime please call by and see Stephanie for more inspiration and links to the team :D

Summary of the project which gives all the views of the card in one photo :D I’d love if you pinned and called by on Pinterest :D
Beautiful card,as always! I’m one of the few that actually prefer pigment over dye inks though I use both. I’ve found that the Colorbox, Cat’s Eye inks are wonderful pigment inks to use (oldies but goodies)! Avery Elle pigments are pretty good too.
Oh thanks for the tips Katie :D
Absolutely stunning card, Debby! Love the colors and layering over the wreath. I mostly use Colorbox pigment inks, too, because they are reasonably priced, juicy, and come in such a wonderful range of colors.
Another thumbs up for Colorbox Kathy :D
Debby it’s so pretty! I love those colors, and what a beautiful stamp set. I was bummed when I read they no longer make them. I’ve been told by a few crafty friends that Mama Elephant pigment inks are really good. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Oh Mama Elephant, love their stamps, must try their inks :D
Beautiful :-) I like the Altenew and HA inks, but I also have some pigment inks (Memento) that have nice soft colours for layering.
Thanks Janet :D
I’ve heard Mama Elephant and AVery Elle are both really good. I do wonder about the Hybrid Inks though.
Thanks for the tips Vicki :D
How interesting! I’ve only used regular dye inks (not hybrids) for layering, but I have lots of pigment ink pads, mostly old Colorbox ones. I even have reinkers for most of them! I’ll have to try them. I also have a lot of chalk inks, which may be worth a try, too.
Question: when using pigments, do you dry each layer before adding the next one?
Interesting post Debby (and of course a beautiful card – but then that’s a given!!)… I haven’t tried my pigment inks for layering (I mostly use Altenew dye inks), but I had a bunch of pigment inks given to me that I will try and see if they give a crisper finish.
Oh my, I love these roses. I continue on the search for the perfect rose. I cant count the number of rose stamps that i have. I’m pretty sure its user error. lol You on the other hand, have mastered them so so well. It doesn’t seem to matter what medium you use. these are so so lovely. Hugs, treen
