Summer is here with the Hero Arts Summer Catalog! This post is part of a blog hop, more on that below but for now let’s crack on with all the summer fun! What could scream summer more than the gorgeous Color Layering Ice Cream set :D All supplies are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used.
The Hero Arts color layering sets are great fun and easy to line up. I decided to hit the color big time for a change and reached for the Neon inks! I stamped the ice cream scoops twice in each color: Neon Red to Purple, Neon Chartreuse to Blue and Neon Yellow to Orange. In each case I used the lightest of the ink colors to stamp the ice cream solid shape and then the deepest of the colors to stamp the ice cream detail so for the vibrant Neon Chartreuse to Blue the ice cream is in Chartreuse and the detail in Blue if that makes sense. I then cut each scoop out with the matching die. For the cones I used Soft Sand with a little Soft Brown rock and roll shading and then Latte for the waffle cone details and again cut out with the matching die.
I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black near the top of a Stitched Rectangle of white card and splattered with green and yellow paint before foam mounting the ice creams in a trio below. The panel is then mounted on a Desert Storm card base and accented with clear sequins.
From Neon ice creams to retro adventure icons in one fell swoop! The Adventure Begins set has some wonderful classic icons. I stamped the sentiment, sun and mountain in Versafine Onyx Black on panels of Arches watercolor card and used 3M masking tape to section off an area around the images.
I watercolored within the taped area building up a gradient of color in Dahler Rowney Phthalo Turquoise, Daniel Smith Quinacridone Gold and Daniel Smith Quinacridone Coral. I kept the sun and mountain top without color and then splattered with more of the paints along with some Perfect Pearls solution before removing the painters tape. These panels are mounted on Desert Storm card bases.
So there you have it two takes on summer – one full-on Neon ice creams which transport me to a noisy beach promenade with children laughing and splashing in the water. Conversely a set of retro watercolored adventure icons which sets the scene in my mind of rambling in the mountains, sturdy walking boots, shorts and a backpack with picnic inside!
