Normally I watercolor an image and then work on the background but for this card I had a watercolored panel left over from another project when I sat down to use this new You Are Wonderful set from Clearly Besotted and thought it would go nicely. As it was a light watercolor wash it was easy to gold heat emboss the tulip bouquet over the top and then add more watercoloring to the image – a stamped watercolored background rather than watercoloring around a stamped image if that makes sense.
The watercolored panel I started with was Arches cold pressed watercolor card with a light wash of Winsor & Newton Alizarin Crimson mixed with Aureolin to give one of my favorite coral tones. I stamped the tulips and sentiment with Versamark, gold heat embossed and then added light touches of color to the petals and leaves. I splattered with more of the watercolors and some Color Shine in Gold from Heidi Swapp and when dry die cutting with a Stitched Rectangle.
I added a twine bow and a few sequins before foam mounting this panel over another of Fog card I partly cut with another Stitched Rectangle to give a tall skinny mat and I also added a banner cut from patterned paper. Finally the panels were foam mounted on a Bazzill Marshmallow card base.
The new You Are Wonderful set will go live along with the rest of the new release at 10pm UK time, 5pm EST, on 5th February at Clearly Besotted and Simon Says Stamp. In the meantime check out Stephanie’s blog for more inspiration and links to the rest of the Design Team including our guest for February Keren Baker.
FAVORITE WATERCOLOR MEDIUM
For the recent Watercolor For Card Makers: Intermediate Techniques giveaway I asked people what their favorite watercolor medium was. As I was reading through everyone’s comments when I realised what a wealth of information there was and the scientist in me wanted to analyse that. Well here’s what you said!
The clear winner was Distress Inks then it was a close race between watercolored pencils, more traditional paints in tubes, brush tip markers (Zig Clean Color Brush Markers) and then pans or palette types with the main contender being the Gansai Tambi set from Kuretake Zig. Less frequently favorited were the papers (Peerless), more traditional markers (Distress/Tombow), liquids (re-inkers, Dr PH Martin, sprays etc), powders (Brusho) and finally crayons (Gelatos etc).
It seems we do love Tim’s Distress range. I wonder whether crayons will rise up the ranks in the coming months with the advent of the Distress Crayons. Hmmm, perhaps I should ask the same question again in 6 months time to see if there are any changes!

Watched Tim’s video from CHA and the crayons remind me of Gelatos and the Dick Bluck pastel crayons. Both work better with fingers or baby wipes to blend. I do love the Distress color palette, though.
Your card is lovely, and I always appreciate your clear instructions.

I like your cards, but why do you go with the American spellings? Watercolor? Sorry to be pedantic but that really annoys me.
Hi,
Sorry, just read my previous comment back and it sounded really critical and that wasn’t my attention.
I just meant that it’s good to see how International everyone is if we keep using our local spellings.
Of course it’s your blog and you can do whatever you like ;-) Sorry again, no hurt intended .Lors
