Sorry the lighting is awful here with more rain and barely any light so this photo is rather grainy but I wanted to post this today as part of the Share Handmade Kindness challenge from Jennifer McGuire.
This is my hall table; I use an antique blanket chest that used to be my Great Aunt’s and the little inlaid wooden box, that used to be my Great Uncle’s. Brother and sister, these two relatives of mine were both classical musicians with traditional values but a total hoot too! Unfortunately they have passed away but I’m left with the memories of them and one of those is their love of correspondence. I’ve got a treasured collection of silver pencils, letter openers and beautifully penned letters, cards and postcards. I think for our elderly generation snail mail has so much more meaning, after all there were no texts or facetime when they were younger and many haven’t got to grips with modern technology.
This week the Share Handmade Kindness challenge concentrates on kindness for strangers. All this got me thinking; as a card maker I create a lot of cards and I send a lot of cards but I usually have a few more than I need that family and friends enjoy being able to use. However, today I’ve gathered together this basket of cards and I’m going to take them to the local old people’s home. Many of the residents aren’t mobile enough to get to the hight street to buy a card so I’m hoping having a basket of cards available to them will enable them to send a note to a friend or relative that they might not have been able to otherwise. I think my Great Aunt and Uncle would approve :D

ONE MORE THING
Several Craftsy Black Friday deals are here super early! Check them out here.
BACK HOPEFULLY SOON
Phew, OK, I’ve got a couple of projects I just need to photograph before I can share. I’m hoping that the weather picks up to allow that although I do have my wee one home with me at the moment so I might not get to it today. There are so many bugs flying around this year and he is particularly susceptible to picking them all up it seems!
Very thoughtful.
I take some to nursing homes as well as provide some to a pastor/priest who I know sees a lot more people than I do and knows who just might need a “pick me up” kind of card. He loves having a bunch to hand out. He told me once about a lady who had never spoken at a nursing home, but after giving her a card, later he heard that she shouted at someone who was in her room and had the nerve to move it on her dresser! Funny, but nice in a way too!
I love your blog very inspiring, you great ideas ☺
Love that you brought the card shop to the elderly resident home! Great idea and how lucky for them to choose from your beautiful cards to send!
I totally agree with you regarding the way the older generation feels about receiving snail mail. In fact, I think that most people love to receive things in the mail! It is a tangible way of knowing that someone is thinking of you. I’m sure that the seniors in the nursing home will enjoy sending out some cards. Lovely idea!
What a thoughtful idea…love the idea of a basket full of cards. Im sure it was a wonderful and helpful surprise.
Love the basket, thanks for sharing.
Debby I just love to get your e-mail and see your Idea they are so grate. Thanks for stepping in for Jennifer.
God bless you
What a lovely idea! Thank you!
What a lovely gesture for many of our seniors to have access to such works of art. Thank you for sharing kindness and creativity in such a beautiful way.
