I’m back today with more Halloween goodness from Mama Elephant, in particular I’m thinking about Halloween coloring. This cute witch cat is from the Meowlloween set, she’s inked in Memento Tuxedo Black and then cut out with the matching dies along with the broom from the same set. Colour plays a big part in creating an image which is recognisable as being for a certain Holiday or Season. Purple, green, yellow, orange and black are traditional Halloween colours and by using them we subconsciously send a Halloween signal to the brain even before we view the card in more detail!
To set the scene I die cut a circle from masking paper and used the negative of the mask to blend a circle of inks (Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Dusty Concord) on a panel of white card. With the base colours started I picked purple Copics for the witch outfit with yellow accents but was undecided as to what colour for the kitty. I was thinking of a black witch’s cat so headed in that direction but kept the colour more on the grey side to hint at being a black cat but without becoming too dark and loosing detail.
The scene is finished with the cute speech bubble and sentiment from the Meowlloween Extras set along with a sprinkling of sequins and dots of Stickles glitter glue before mounting the panel on a Jelly Bean card base.
You can find the new Mama Elephant sets including this Meowlloween one at both Mama Elephant and Simon Says Stamp.
