I have a video today looking at adding detail with dots to Copic colouring. OK so that isn’t the most eloquent blog post title, but it ‘does what it says on the tin’! I had stamped and masked this alien scene using the new Out Of This World set from Clearly Besotted and was happily colouring away when I found I was struggling with the moon. It was all a bit flat.

Then I remember how in the past I’ve added dots of colour to a background to add texture and detail. I learnt this technique from Sandy Allnock, who is awesome at colouring with all sorts of media, check out her blog and YouTube channel. With the addition of Copic, white gel pen and glitter gel pen dots, all of a sudden the image had a lot more interest and life – perfect!

Once coloured I masked the images then blended ink into the sky using Simon Says Stamp inks in Twirling Tutu, Wisteria and Lake Shores. The scene is cut out with a Stitched Square die, Tangerine Twine tied around the White card base, Glossy Accents added to the alien’s eyes and the rocket and finally some Stickles glitter to the rocket’s trail.

The new Clearly Besotted release will go live tonight at 10pm UK time (5pm EST) at Clearly Besotted and Simon Says Stamp. While you wait take a look at all the inspiration from Stephanie and the rest of the Design Team.
