It’s June Card Kit time from Simon Says Stamp and it’s a fun and colourful one this month! I think people know how much I love soft, muted colours so a few of you have commented how interested you are to see what I make this month LOL. Well, yes I am drawn to a muted colour palette but I love all colours and delved into this new box of goodies with glee :D When I peeped in the box I knew this was a great kit for creating projects for kids and that’s my advice when you are working with something outside of your norm to think of the person you will send your cards to. Recently my youngest’s class was asked to design a new school top and the designs included rainbows, bright colours and unicorns! And so I planned a small card and envelope duo perfect for a children’s birthday.
The Doodlebug Sunkissed Papers in the kit are perfect for children with bright colours and cute icons mixed in. Not only that but some of the papers come with ready-made tag and card topper type scenes. I cut the ice cream cone and ice cream van scenes from the papers and matted them on yellow polka dot paper. For the card I matted further with White and Island Blue Stitched Squares before adding to the card base. To make the image pop I added Glossy Accents to the ice cream, a coat of Wink of Stella to the cone and added one of the flowers from the Doodlebug Enamel Shapes in the Kit. The sentiment from the Happy & Smile set is stamped in Black and trimmed out.
The Ice Cream Van image makes the perfect addition to a Gift Card Envelope cut from the Island Blue card and again, although you can’t see it well in the pictures, I added lots of detail with Glossy Accents to the ice cream and Wink of Stella to the cone and metal pieces on the van and finally Star Dust Stickles to the flowers. A party banner from Baby Party Animals accents both pieces – stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, coloured with Copics and die cut with the matching dies before foam mounting.
These projects are quick and easy with all the hard work being done by the patterned papers, but you know what, that’s just fine and these will go down a treat with one of my son’s friends :D
