Oh my goodness looking at this I should’ve warned you this was bright LOL. I know that the colour for 2014 is Pantone’s radiant orchid but I still have a love of yellow and grey :) Gosh I’m looking back and yellow was like 5 years ago! I’m so out of date! The colour was actually decided by the pack of 50’s Diner Gelatos I’m enjoying using at the moment. I cut a 7×7 inch piece of white card and treated with gesso, rubbed the yellow gelato into the corners of the card and down each side and blended it in with my fingers. Then doused the card with a solution of perfect pearls and watched the magic happen as the colour soften and slowly spread towards the uncoloured centre leaving a lovely dreamy ombre kind of effect. When dry I splattered a stronger solution of perfect pearls over the top and then when dry again I used the card to create a little gift box using my Christmas toy, the We R Memory Keepers gift box punch board :)
I wanted to create the box because, even though I’m struggling to work out how to photograph 3D items nicely, I wanted to try the new In the Frame stamp set and dies from Clearly Besotted Stamps as a topper :) The set comes with 4 fabulous frame images and a bunch of sentiments to fit perfectly :) Of course there are the matching dies too which just simply makes me happy LOL. For this month the new sets will be released at 10pm UK time on January 6th.
On a totally unrelated note I’m continuing with my love of letters and can see hand lettering and stamps made accordingly as quite a fabulous trend for this year. Well I hope so anyway :) During the holidays I’m managing to keep up a little practice and just hope I can do the same during term time.
Supplies: Stamps – Clearly Besotted Stamps in the frame; Dies – Clearly Besotted Stamps in the frame; Punch Board – We R Memory Keepers gift box; Inks – Hero Arts butter bar, soft granite; Card – Neenah solar white; Gesso; Gelatos – Faber Castell 50’s diner; perfect pearls; Twine – Hemptique
Another stunning creation Debby…love the colours together, something bright and cheerful to look at on such a wet miserable day here in the Midlands xx
Very nicely done!
Wow, Debby! I love these colors together, and the treatment you gave to the paper is gorgeous. I think I’ll be seeing a lot more cards using gesso, including my own. I’ve been wanting to try this medium for sometime now…
Your Christmas toy is very helpful for sure, but I still have the envelope punch board on my wish list. Well, I’ll always have origami :). BTW, thanks for the video, it sure helps seeing things done.
As far as I can see your hand writing is very beautiful, and that’s an area where I won’t be entering… my hand writing is so awful that I would probably had to be Duncan MacLeod to have enough time on this life to practice for a decent hand writing.
Happy New Year!
Totally had me giggling Cris! I think I will need a lot of time to make my writing look like this without the tracing paper and guide letters to practice over LOL
Gorgeous box Debby, I love the colours together xx
Love that bright and cheerful box!!! Perfect for the drab day ahead! Wondering if you could include info about what calligraphy set you are using?
Hi Carol, I’m a total beginner, and have just ordered a few bits and pieces over the internet to play with and get me started. In this picture I’m using a Gillott 1068A nib, iron gall ink onto tracing paper. I have a set of letters laid out which I then place the tracing paper over and practise, practise, practise! Hopefully I will learn the right shapes in the end, but when I put pen to paper without the guides it’s not quiet as pretty LOL
such a pretty box! love the blush of yellow
A wonderfully cheery box, and the topper is a delightful showcase of the new CB release! Visiting here has certainly brightened my day!
