I was recently asked by Garden Girl Jen Gallacher if she could share a card for a feature she’s doing today on using gold accents. Of course I was delighted to say yes and thought I’d take the opportunity to get out the shimmer and shine again and play along :)
Today’s card uses a lot of new Simon Says Stamp goodies along with a new technique for me – embossing paste. I’ve been so inspired to see Shari Carroll and Lisa Spangler recently using this type of product to add texture. Here’s an example of Shari’s on a fabulous art journal page and one from Lisa on this cute card. I can see me using this technique lots from now on as it is such fun!
So to start, I die cut two Hexagon Pattern Circles and glued then together to form my stencil. Using two glued together made a thicker stencil and so allowed for more paste and greater texture and dimension. I used some washi tape to keep my stencil in place on my card panel before scooping out a dollop of paste with a piece of thick card and scraping it across the stencil. Then I carefully lifted the stencil and threw it and my makeshift scraper into the recycling. Score – no cleaning up! OK, next was the hard part: leaving it alone long enough to dry, which was almost as hard as leaving glossy accents to dry LOL. Then I used my finger to dab and smear some gold paint over the paste and I also diluted some of the paint a little to add a few splatters too. The paint I used (Li’l Davis Designs gold) I’ve had for ages and I don’t think you can buy it now but there are lots of fab one’s on the market. Lastly I decorated my shimmery panel with a die cut Leanne Butterfly, a sentiment from the Be set and of course a sprinkling of gold sequins. Phew! I probably should’ve taken a video of it rather than trying to explain in words LOL.
